Get Professional Insight Into Your Child’s Attention Profile

At Steps and Stones Psychology, we understand that the path to an ADHD diagnosis can feel overwhelming. You might be asking: “Is this just normal childhood energy, or is it something more?”

Our ADHD Screener is a comprehensive preliminary investigation designed to give you a professional opinion without the immediate cost or wait-times of a full diagnostic assessment. We offer flexible delivery options (In-Clinic or Remote) to suit your family’s needs.

The Integrated Pathway

We Believe in a Streamlined Approach to Assessment

Investment: $500

Assessment Pathway Credit: If your screener results suggest a high likelihood of ADHD and you choose to proceed to a Full Diagnostic Assessment with us, the cost of this screener will be credited towards your full assessment fee.*

This allows you to start the investigation process with confidence.

*Terms & Conditions: The cost deduction applies when a Full Diagnostic Assessment is booked within 3 months of receiving your Screener Report. The credit is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.

What Does the Screener Involve?

Unlike free online quizzes, this is a clinical investigation conducted by a registered psychologist.

1. One-Hour Clinical Interview

We don’t just look at checklists; we listen to you. In this 60-minute session (conducted via Telehealth or in our Blackwood clinic), we discuss your child’s developmental history, current behaviours, and your specific concerns. This context is vital for accurate results.

2. Standardised Questionnaires (Conners 4)

We gather perspectives from the people who know your child best. We administer the Conners 4, a gold-standard clinical tool completed by parents and teachers. This maps your child’s attention, impulsivity, and executive functioning against thousands of other children their age range.

3. Computerised Attention Testing (CPT)

Your child will complete a game-like computer task to objectively measure sustained attention and impulsivity. Depending on your location and clinical needs, we utilise one of the following:

  • Conners CPT 3 (In-Clinic): Completed at our Blackwood practice, this is a highly controlled test environment ideal for local families.
  • MOXO d-CPT (Remote): Completed from your home, this test specifically measures performance when visual and auditory distractors are present.

4. The Report & Feedback

You won’t be left to interpret the data alone. You will receive:

  • A Detailed Summary Report outlining the findings.
  • A Post-Assessment Discussion to explain the results and provide a clear recommendation on whether a full diagnosis is warranted.

Which Option is Right for Your Family?

Option 1: The ADHD Screener

Best if you are unsure and want a professional opinion first.

  • Goal: To determine the likelihood of ADHD and whether further testing is worth the investment.
  • Tools: Clinical Interview, Conners 4 Questionnaires & Computerised Test (CPT/MOXO).
  • Outcome: A Summary Report & Recommendation.
  • Perfect for: Gaining personal clarity or supporting a referral from a GP.

Option 2: The Full Diagnostic Assessment

Best if you need a formal diagnosis for support services.

  • Goal: To provide a formal, recognised Diagnosis.
  • Tools: All Screener tools PLUS Cognitive Testing (WISC-V) & Academic Screening.
  • Outcome: A comprehensive Diagnostic Report.
  • Perfect for: Supporting referrals to Paediatricians for medical management reviews and accessing formal school accommodations (IEP).

Note: The Screener provides valuable clinical data, but it is not a formal diagnosis. As Paediatricians and schools typically require a formal diagnosis for medication reviews or funding, the Full Assessment is the recommended pathway for these specific goals.

Why Choose the Steps & Stones Screener?

Flexible Options

Whether you prefer the convenience of remote testing (using the MOXO test) or the controlled environment of our Blackwood clinic (using the Conners CPT 3), we have an option to suit you.

Objective Data

We don’t just rely on opinions. By using advanced computerised tools, we get hard data on your child’s brain function to back up our clinical observations.

A Clear Path Forward

You will walk away knowing exactly what to do next. Whether it’s reassurance that your child is on track, or a recommendation to seek a diagnosis, you will have a professional roadmap.
